Music with Energy
A project developed within the EDP Foundation's Education with Energy programme, in partnership with the Skoola Urban Music Academy, Music with Energy is an intervention tool which deploys art for the purposes of promoting sustainability.
The project invites young people between the ages of 10 and 18 to reflect on the climate emergency and create artistic objects that challenge others to do the same.
Seeking to implement a process of community formation, the programme features a week of creation, reflection and awareness around the identified themes and based on the following three axes:
1) Exploration of the sound possibilities of various materials, including marine waste, garbage and reused materials for the creation of new instruments, or for graphic and/or sculptural compositions derived from the same;
2) Film screenings, talks with experts and moments of reflection;
3) Words spoken, written, sung or otherwise manipulated as sound material with myriad meanings.
Several guests with experience in climate activism and in using non-formal education methodologies play a part in implementing the programme. Multidisciplinarity is the common denominator of a team that seeks to use art, and particularly music, as a vehicle for discussion and awareness of the pressing need for environmental sustainability.
