The EDP Foundation plays an active role in the identification, classification, protection and validation of the national electric heritage. In this field, the foundation promotes projects and technical assistance in the inventory, documentary treatment and restoration of pieces and equipment.
In this sense, the EDP Foundation is a sponsor of the National Network of Energy Museums, a project that aims to drive the development of museum units and interpretation centres all over the country. This informal network currently includes about twenty entities that own historically relevant electric/energy heritage that they intend to preserve and validate, opening it up to the public and thereby maximising its scientific, technological and educational potential.
The EDP Foundation also carries out historic research in order to produce a bibliography that will help increase the knowledge of the energy sector’s history in Portugal.
