Fundação EDP promotes the 'Bairros com Energia' (Neighbourhoods with Energy) project, which involves creating 4 workshops in Lisbon neighbourhoods of Alta de Lisboa, Bairro do Rego, Vale de Alcântara and Vale de Chelas.

Organised in partnership with Iminente, a platform that provides urban culture experiences, the project will conduct community workshops between July and September 2022, guided by the conviction that communities play a key role in preserving and developing the spaces in which they are located, contributing to the construction of more cohesive and sustainable cities.

The activities, which will target participants from various generations, aim to create dynamics of collaboration and co-creation between associations, architects, artists and the general community to develop solutions for a more sustainable future in each neighbourhood.

The 'Bairros com Energia' project is part of Fundação EDP’s social innovation strategy, which has been actively working in the area of community impact, with a focus on sustainability and the inclusion of vulnerable people and communities.

Alta de Lisboa
Participants: 20 participants aged 15/16+ years

This workshop, capitalising on the know-how of the architecture studio MOB, aims to expose participants to some architectural tools for thinking about, and then acting on, a specific space in the neighbourhood, namely the garage that serves as a collective space. Using polycarbonate, for example, a sustainable and recyclable material, and LED lighting, an efficient lighting source that uses less energy, the project aims to respond to community needs from a sustainable perspective, thus creating greater awareness of such practices.

Bairro do Rego
Participants: 20 participants aged 14-70 years

This workshop is aimed at raising awareness of environmental sustainability through the creation of recreational spaces in the neighbourhood. In partnership with the cultural and environmental association Mergulho Urbano, the end result will be the construction and assembly of a ping-pong table and the creation and integration of shaded areas – made from recovered and recycled materials and installed in the courtyard next to the association.

Vale de Alcântara
Participants: 20 participants aged 8+ years

The Torre PLSTIK project will be conducted alongside the Associação Juvenil Claro and will involve making skateboards and ping-pong paddles by transforming plastic packaging. The aim is to democratise sport and have a positive impact by raising awareness in communities about the problem of improper plastic disposal, offering circular and environmentally friendly alternatives.

Vale de Chelas
Participants: 15 to 20 participants aged 8-25 years

Implementation of horizontal and vertical vegetable gardens and a composting station in the Bairro da Curraleira housing estate, in partnership with UP Farming. This project aims to awaken interest in children and young people about collective cultivation, biodiversity, and sustainable food and consumption, promoting environmental conservation and the social, physical and mental well-being of the local community.
