Applications for the 15th edition of the EDP Foundation New Artists Award are open from 13 March to 30 April. Created in 2000, this biennial award is aimed at artists with short individual careers that have not yet been established, with no age limit, and in all forms of the plastic and visual arts.
This Award is an EDP Foundation initiative that aims to contribute to the new creation and promotion of the values of contemporary art. Applications are therefore eligible from artists of Portuguese nationality, whether or not they reside in Portugal, and from artists of foreign nationality who live in Portugal and are at the start of their careers.
The applications will be analysed by a Selection Jury which, in this 15th edition, is made up of curators Catarina Rosendo, Luís Silva, and Sérgio Mah (MAAT's deputy director), who will select a group of finalist artists, with a minimum of five and a maximum of eight.
The group of finalists will take part in a collective exhibition to be held at MAAT in 2025, in which the Award Jury, made up of national and international personalities of renowned merit in the fields of plastic and visual arts, will select the winner, who will be awarded a prize worth 20,000 euros.
In its previous editions, the New Artists Award was won by Joana Vasconcelos, Leonor Antunes, Vasco Araújo, Carlos Bunga, João Maria Gusmão + Pedro Paiva, João Leonardo, André Romão, Gabriel Abrantes, Priscila Fernandes, Ana Santos, Mariana Silva, Claire de Santa Coloma, Diana Policarpo, and Adriana Proganó.
