Eco-Visionaries. Art, Architecture, and New Media after the Anthropocene

Eco-visionaries offers contemporary stances within art and architecture which seek solutions to present-day environmental problems transcending the traditional notions of sustainability. This comprehensive volume complements the collaborative exhibition held in 2018 in four European museums: MAAT—Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, Lisbon; Bildmuseet, Umeå; HeK—House of Electronic Arts Basel, Basel; and LABoral Centro de Arte y Creacion Industrial, Gijon. Each exhibition presents a distinct curatorial focus, and in each one artists and architects explore alternative perspectives about the place humanity holds on Earth through works presented using different media.
While the exhibition offers a set of artistic and critical reflections on topical subjects, the book gathers research studies, essays, as well as an inventory of the exhibited works of art. In addition to the historical background of current environmental thought in the fields of art and design, this catalogue also promotes contemporary approaches representing alternative visions for future uses of energy, natural resources and the environment.
