Portuguese artists Ana Cardoso, Bernardo Correia, João Gabriel, Ana Guedes, Igor Jesus and the Argentine Claire de Santa Coloma are the finalists of the 2017 EDP Foundation New Artists Award.
The selection of the six finalists of this 12th edition, from a total of more than 600 candidates, was carried out by a team of prominent curators made up of Ana Anacleto – curator and curatorial coordinator of MAAT -, Filipa Oliveira –artistic director of the Eugénio de Almeida Forum - and João Silvério – curator of the FLAD contemporary art collection.
The works of the selected artists will be exhibited in a group show at MAAT until 9 October. During this exhibition, the jury named artist Claire de Santa Coloma as the winner, who will receive a prize of 20 thousand euros.
Biography
33 years old, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1983; lives and works in Lisbon.
She studied direct stone carving at the Ateliers Beaux Arts de la ville de Paris. At the same time, she concluded a research Master’s Degree in Visual Arts at the Sorbonne, in Paris. Between 2007 and 2009 she was a resident artist at Casa de Velázquez, in Madrid. Between 2009 and 2010 she attended the independent studies programme MAUMAUS, in Lisbon, which she took to the 29th São Paulo Biennale. In 2010, she took part in the residency La Belle Alliance (Metropole), at Lisbon’s Goethe Institute. In 2017 she was invited to take part in the programme of Lisbon as the Ibero-American Capital of Culture, through a residency at the Coruchéus studios and a project to be presented at the Quadrum gallery.
She exhibits regularly since 2008. Among her solo exhibitions, we highlight: Guía Prático para Fazer uma Escultura Básica de Madeira, at Galeria 3+1 of Contemporary Art (Lisbon, 2014); A ordem complexa, at Galeria Progetti (Rio de Janeiro, 2012); A escassez nos salvará da catástrofe, at Galeria 3+1 of Contemporary Art (Lisbon, 2011) and A Experiência da Medida, at Carpe Diem Art & Research (Lisbon, 2010). Her collective exhibitions include: Excusa Argumental, at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Gaz Natural Fenosa (A Coruña); Buenos Aires Art Biennale (Buenos Aires, 2013); Geografía Portátil, at MUMU (Córdoba, Argentina, 2013).
